Angelic Pretty Dreaming Macaron!

Following along on my blog, you may have often noticed the sentiment of me wanting a brand lolita piece. Though Bodyline has some nice looking pieces, I've seen a lot of prints that brands have released that I'd longed to try. So, after saving up this summer, I finally took the plunge and purchased my first brand piece second hand. Drum roll please....

Angelic Pretty Dreaming of Macaron OP! I had seen the print before and loved how the delicious sweets lining its border looked, so when I saw it second hand, I had to snatch it up.

Though the official measurements of the OP on Hello Lace are for an 88 cm bust and a 70 cm waist, the full shirring of the piece provides much more room for fitting. I found a statement from a post on Pepperminttealove where she states that it can fit up to a 45 inch bust (114 cm) and a 40 inch waist (101 cm) for the maximum measurements. Though I haven't checked to confirm her listed maximums, I found that the dress fit me very comfortably at a 42 inch bust and a 35 inch waist.

On to pictures of my particular OP:

The main difference I noticed between the Angelic Pretty dress and my Bodyline dresses was a heavier, thicker fabric on the Angelic Pretty piece and also the fully lined inside of the dress.

I found the occasion to wear the dress at a wedding this past weekend. Below is a run down of my coordinate:

Dress: Angelic Pretty
Socks: Sock Dreams
Wrist cuffs: Claire's
Handbag (which I never got a good picture of): Harajuku Mini
Glasses, shoes: random offbrand
I also had the pleasure of taking a lovely picture at the event with my delightful boyfriend in this outfit:

Second Outfit for the Past Weekend

I was able to grace the wedding reception of two friends this past weekend. For the occasion, I of course decided to wear lolita.

Jsk: Bodyline
Socks: Secret Shop
Tote: Innocent World
Bolero: Worthington
Shoes: Limelight
Necklace: Forever 21
Bracelet: Rue 21
I went for a more sweet classic look after receiving my Bodyline Cinderella Bunny jsk in the mail. The dress surprised me by being more classic than I expected with nice thick off white lace. This is also my first time using my Innocent World Forest Animals tote! I bought this from a girl in my local community as soon as I saw her sales listing page. Even though I was initially somewhat concerned about the glitter print on the tote, my worries were quickly allied as I saw how well it was affixed to the item. I'm glad to finally own a piece of brand beyond just an Angelic Pretty mousepad and some random Angelic Pretty hair ties. As I continue to slowly slim down and save up money, I'm looking forward to acquiring an actual dress sometime in the future.

Outfit For Mall Meet up

Outfit Rundown:
Cutsew- Handmade
Skirt- Handmade
Bows- Offbrand
Earrings- Handmade
Socks- Sock Dreams
Shoes- Wal-mart

I had a meeting with my local comm today at the mall. We had a fabulous time shopping, enjoying a local Japanese restaurant then finally stopping off at the Tokyo food market. I had initially been nervous about the meeting since I was worried my handmade items would look terrible but I got a number of compliments on them, so some of my worries have been allied.

Recent Outfit

Outfit Rundown:
Jsk: Bodyline
Blouse: Cato
Shoes: Claire's
Hair accessories and socks: Random shop near my house

I was very happy with the way this particular coordinate turned out. I feel like the red shoes and red ribbons in the hair balance each other out. Also, I've never done a lolita coordinate where I didn't wear at least knee socks or tights. Having a coordinate which felt much more summery was nice.

30 Day Lolita Challenge Day 18: A Picture of My Favorite Lolita Substyle

I really love sweet lolita, and I would say that this photo from Gothic and Lolita Bible 42 sums up a lot of what I love about the style:

The model here looks, like the photo is implying, deliciously sweet and lovely here. I love her stuffed animal handbags along with the pastel pretty of the outfit. The vibrant pink wig is another part of her outfit that I love.

Cherry Blossom Viewing Festival

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending a cherry blossom viewing festival locally, and I also got to meet up with some local lolitas. We enjoyed the botanical gardens first then enjoyed a local nearby restaurant.

Earrings and necklace from Claire's
Socks from Sock Dreams

My Coord For Today

I posted a similar version to the coord that I wore today on a post on daily-lolita a few weeks back so that I could get some feedback on it. The main criticisms I encountered were comments on the dress being too short and issues with my hair being too plain.

I looked into investing in an underskirt first. However, I started imagining what the dress would actually look like with an underskirt, and I just didn't like the look. I do think that the dress will slacken and lengthen somewhat once I lose some weight. So for now, I think I'll keep rocking it at this length while making sure to wear tights so that my legs aren't exposed at least.

The hair thing seemed easier to solve. I decide to start wearing my hair in fluffy pigtails on either side. I wish the flash hadn't keep blurring the picture for some reason so that the hair would be better illuminated. I overall like the look of pigtails a lot better since I was getting tired of keeping it back in a bun anyway.

Also, though no one commented on it, I decided that I like the look of white tights better with this outfit. They seem to bring out the white of the blouse along with the white in the dress more, and the I think the coordinate has a nice balance as long as I keep wearing black shoes with it.

Bodyline Squirrels Dress Review

UPDATE (5/12/2013):

I'm glad to see that this has become one of my most often viewed articles on my blog. I wanted to just say that this item is still one of the favorite in my lolita wardrobe. I've been able to throw it in the washer machine with little degradation to the quality of the dress other than a slight bit more fuzziness to the lace which isn't noticeable unless you're looking very carefully.

Still wearing the dress; woah, my lolita style has matured, hah
Original Thoughts Below (2/29/12)

I never got around to posting about my Bodyline squirrels dress when it arrived in the mail, so I'll do so now.

I had originally hoped to get the dress in time for Kamicon. Guess when the dress came in? Literally one day after the con. Oh well. I don't think I would have had time to really properly try on the dress and coordinate then anyway.

Below are a couple of pictures of me trying on the dress with a mostly assembled outfit sans the petticoat (which I got slightly later than the new dress).

As you can see, the lacing in the back of the dress provides plenty of extra room for raising or lowering your size though I am pressing the size limit in the dress with about a 36 inch waist and a 40 inch bust.

I particularly adore the way that the Bodyline squirrels print looks in black. The darkness of the color really makes the pastel imagery stand out. I've commonly seen wearing black sweet lolita being labeled as bittersweet lolita. I'm not exactly sure how fond of that terming I am. I tend to err on the side of fewer categories and I don't see much besides the black coloring that makes it bittersweet lolita. Perhaps if the coordinates were required to have something more than a different colorway going for them, I'd see the need to term the styling differently.

As an overall sentiment, I really love this particular dress. It's the first piece in my closet that really and truly exudes sweet lolita, and I'm looking forward to wearing it more in the future.

Finally Acquired A Nice Petticoat

I am forced to face an honest truth here: My petticoat up until now has sucked, giving me little to no poof. This inspired me to go to egl-comm-sales to get a better one. Now I'm much happier with my poof going from something flat like this:
To a much more full looking look:
I am very happy with the results, and I'm now looking forward to wearing my lolita outfits more than ever.

Bodyline Order

The new year has been a very busy one for me thus far! I made another order to Bodyline today, much to my delight.

Ever since I first saw the squirrel patterned dress on Bodyline's website, I simply knew that I had to have it. There is some sort of strange magic about squirrels sitting around enjoying cake while sitting royally upon mushrooms.

Also, I hope to attend my first anime convention soon in my lolita garb. KamiCon, here I come.
